Making the Distance

14 Dec

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe last several days brought unsettled weather with thunderstorms, fog and great lightning shows but not heavy wind…  some sun too. Despite the weather the NASA Spaceplane test was launched – we were pretty much beside it but didn’t know it was happening (typical of us) – but we did hear two distinct booms and at the time wondered what they were! We went in to Melbourne for the night and had a great look around – it has a nice small town feel about it. Two days ago we had two wonderful dolphin displays. One was a single dolphin who joined us and swam along right by our cockpit for quite a while – it was wonderful. Then when we got anchored in Ft. Pierce, we went out in the dinghy and there was a large group of dolphins who put on a fantastic display – jumping, breaching, flipping their tails, rolling – not sure what they were doing, perhaps team hunting – but it was wonderful. We are now at anchor in Fort Pierce hosted by Sandy Stalker. Today we took a run down to Stuart, visited with the Heffler’s (who may head for Bahamas early next week) and stopped in at Mack Sails to see Travis Blain. We expect to be in Fort Pierce for a while as things are pretty jammed up in Stuart and Ft. Lauderdale with boats waiting for a weather window to cross to Bahamas or parked for Christmas. We have lots of projects – install AIS, install SSB, install sound system, hot water, perhaps Pactor Modem, provisioning (lots) and clean, clean clean!

You definitely need to wire up your AIS so us poor ” Northerners” can watch you closer.
