Still DITW

We’ve been here a week now and still dead in the water. Oh so frustrating. We have now replaced the starter, alternator and solonoid. Then David and Eric (electrician) rewired and replace a bunch of wires. After all that, the engine is starting and running but not charging properly so the latest suspect is the regulator. Today, David got the shore power running so we can charge the batteries which is good as the wind is not getting to our wind gen due to the big boat parked to windward of us and the wind is light!

We just missed an excellent weather window to cross to Bahamas and the next while isn’t looking so good. Cruising – a lesson in minimalist living and an even bigger lesson in patience. Sorely tried.

Silver linings… – we are “stuck” in an excellent yard (www.rybovich.com) – ok, we’re not at that mega yacht marina in their website picture, we’re at the North yard, but we do get to take the shuttle over to enjoy the amenities (oh so happy there’s a great gym there) – the weather has been great – there is no snow and it is not cold. We had a neat NYE. There are always silver linings.

Jane has had to give up her dream to swim in the turquoise waters of the Exumas (for now) as she has a deadline and needs to get home so is going to fly home from Miami on Wednesday (she has a date with Kiliminjaro!) We are all disappointed.

Jane and I did the Lauderdale run Thursday and got parts and supplies. Then we did laundry. Friday we got propane. Today the three of us went wandering in West Palm Beach. One provisioning run left to do… oh and we have oranges and grapefruit!!!

We’re ready to go – what about that engine? Will there be a weather window?

Are you seeing any boats getting ready for the Pineapple Cup?
