Sea (ICW) Trials

20 Jan

A pivotal day perhaps – we went for “sea trials” today and all good!! The engine purred like a big kitten and it has never sounded so smooth and tight. So we provisioned, fueled, topped up water, showered and did a bunch of little jobs. Oh happy day! We think we will set off for Lauderdale tomorrow – surprisingly it will take 2 days as there are about 30 bridges that have to open for us!! Then it is an outside day to Miami putting us in position for crossing to Bimini. (From there it is about five more days to Georgetown of the Exumas). We will likely wait in No Name Harbour in Key Biscayne for the weather window to cross. Currently it looks like that will not be until next week, there is a miserable system blowing through late next week. Hopefully after that we are off to the Bahamas.

No Name Harbour … that brings back memories from 1974 when I waited there to cross over to Bimini. There was a bar in Bimini, if I recall correctly, that Hemmingway was said to have frequented. Hope that you have an easy trip and that a rum punch awaits on the other side.

Cold and snow in the forecast here. CCA winter social coming up this weekend. We’ll be thinking of you on the hike to Cape Split. Maybe we’ll put hot rum and honey in the thermos…
